AS9100 Rev D is the aerospace quality management system standard that builds on ISO 9001 requirements and adds aerospace-specific controls for risk management, configuration management, product safety, and counterfeit part prevention. Calpak USA's AS9100 Rev D certification at our Hawthorne, California facility means every manufacturing process is governed by documented procedures covering design review, procurement from approved sources, incoming inspection, process validation, traceability, nonconformance disposition, and corrective action. The certification is maintained through annual surveillance audits and full recertification audits conducted by accredited third-party registrars. IPC-A-610 defines three classes of acceptability for electronic assemblies. Class 2 covers dedicated-service electronics where continued performance is required but some cosmetic imperfections are acceptable. Class 3 covers high-reliability electronics where continued performance is critical and downtime is unacceptable, such as life-support medical devices, flight hardware, and military systems. Class 3 imposes tighter requirements on solder joint formation, minimum solder fill percentages, annular ring dimensions, and allowable defect categories compared to Class 2. Calpak USA assembles to both Class 2 and Class 3 standards at our Hawthorne, California facility, with the applicable class determined by the customer's drawing callouts or purchase order. Our IPC-certified operators and inspectors are trained annually on both acceptance levels, and the workmanship class is locked in the production work order to ensure correct inspection criteria are applied throughout the build.
